The Past; Shame; Regret; Forgiveness

THE PAST

  • Water always flows down, not up.
  • Let the dead bury their dead. # Što je bilo, bilo je.
  • It’s dead and burried. * God forbid it should happen again. # Pomenulo se, ne povratilo se.
  • History repeats itself. # Istorija se ponavlja.
  • It is better to be a has-been than a never-was.

SHAME

  • No one can disgrace us but ourselves.
  • He who has no shame before the world, has no fear before God. # Ko izgubi sram ljudski, izgubi i strah božiji.

REGRET

  • It’s too late to shut the stable door after the horse has bolted. # Kasno Janko na Kosovo stiže.
  • What’s done cannot be undone. * Scrambled eggs cannot be unscrambled. * A broken egg cannot be put back together.
  • Better be safe than sorry.

FORGIVENESS

  • A fault confessed is half forgiven. # Ko priznaje, pola mu se prašta.
  • Forgive and forget. # Treba oprostiti i zaboraviti.
  • Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
